Akita Lab In this exercise, students will observe the puppies produced by an Akita breeding. Working from the list of traits that they feel are desirable, they will choose two dogs from this litter to cross to produce their dream dog. Important phenotypic traits are: Coat Color Coat Pattern Mask Nose Pigment Large head or small head Narrow or wide muzzle A complete lab report will list the traits you find desirable, then explain why the dogs you have chosen to cross might be expected to produce a litter with the qualities you seek. Be sure to explore the existence of sex linked traits. Hip Dysplasia is a genetic problem in this breed. It causes arthritis and lameness.
