Mathematics

Reaching conclusions usually requires the use of mathematics.  The most typical uses involve algebraically solving for one unknown and graphing various functions to quickly and concisely communicate the relationship between variables.

Each lesson will have one or more mathematical components.  Graphing is always big.  Probabilities are used in genetics.  Solving of simple equations in chemistry and physics.  Identifying the correct process to use is more important than getting the right numerical answer, although both will be required for an "A".

Charting

We do a lot of charting in class.  Here is a description of the 3 types of charts.  This site also shows how to use Excel.

A very nice acrobat document.  You will need acrobat to view it.

Independent and dependent variables?  Click here for the quick story.  Here for the long story.

Here is a flowchart to help you determine which chart type to use.

Need to compute the slope of a line.  Who doesn't?!?!?!  Get the formula right here!

Some slope applets

Here is a site that shows an example of how to interpret graphs with two variables, to see if they are correlated.

Here is a Base-10 block program that might help you.

What a COOL Venn diagram applet!

Here is an advanced math review page.
