How to Complete

Motion and Force Problems

1.    Select the correct formula to use:

Velocity=Distance/Time    Acceleration=D Velocity/D Time

Momentum=Mass x Velocity    Force=Mass x Acceleration

    *remember that any question having to do with a weight is a force of gravity question, and acceleration = 9.9 m/s2

2.    Write down the formula

3.    Substitute known value for your variables.

        *units can be used as a clue as to where the numbers go

4.    Use basic algebra to solve the equation.

5.    Be sure to give units with your answer.

6.    Always show ALL work to get credit.

Example

What is the velocity, in MPH, of a car traveling 600 miles in 5 hours?

1.    This problem asks for velocity.  So choose the velocity formula and write it down.

Velocity=Distance/Time

2.    Substitute known values.

Velocity=600 Miles/5 Hours

3.    Solve equation.

Velocity=120 Miles/Hour
