The Top Ten Lame Excuses for Failing the Class
10. My work is at home. I will bring in it tomorrow. Statistically, the vast majority of students who say this NEVER turn in the promised work. Or any work. 9. I don't understand the assignment. The instructions are clear, as is the scoring rubric. If you have questions, ask them during class when the task is assigned. 8. I didn't know I had to turn that in. If the assignment has points written on it, turn it in. If it does not, put it in your notebook. This is a lame excuse. 7. I forgot to turn in the lab or activity report. The student using this excuse has wasted the class time allotted for the lab or activity, or was sent out of the room for disruption. 6. I turned in that assignment, but the teacher lost it. Nice try. You place your papers to be graded in the drawer. You watch me take them from drawer and put them in folder. The following day you see me hand out the graded results. The student using this excuse has typically done no work. 5. I forgot my pencil (or pen, or paper, or any other necessary materials). Statistically, these students do not turn in ANY work. Why even say this one? 4. I don't need to know this stuff. High school students do not yet know what they need to know. To assume you do is extremely foolish. 3. The class is too hard. Take a look at the sign over the entrance door. The one that says, "School is easy". It's not there, is it? 2. This class is too much work. Choosing to sit and not do the work and fail, rather than do the assigned work while in class, seems insane. 1. The class is not fun enough. If you are waiting for work to be fun in order to do well at it, you will find the workplace full of failure. |
